Warehouse racking in Texas typically costs $85–$125 per pallet position new and $60–$85 per pallet position used, before installation. For a mid-size warehouse with 500 pallet positions, that’s roughly $42,500–$62,500 new versus $30,000–$42,500 used.

Used racking saves most buyers 25–40%, and it’s usually in stock now instead of weeks out. But used isn’t always the right call. Capacity, condition and how long you plan to keep the system all matter.

This guide compares used and new side by side so you can decide which fits your budget. If you already know you want to save, browse our used pallet racking inventory.

Used vs. New Pallet Racking: Side-by-Side

Used wins on price and speed; new wins on choice and warranty.

Used pallet racking New pallet racking
Cost per pallet position $60–$85 $85–$125
Upright frame (42″ x 16′) $100–$150 $150–$185
Beam pair (96″) $44–$70 $70–$90
Lead time Often same week Typically 4–8 weeks
Sizes and colors Limited to what’s in stock Any size, any color
Warranty Limited or none; ask the dealer Manufacturer warranty
Capacity labels Must be verified Included

Prices are typical Texas ranges as of October 2026 and change with steel prices and inventory.

Most used inventory is selective pallet racks, the most common style, so it’s the easiest to find in the size you need. Specialty systems like pushback or pallet flow are harder to find used.

When to Buy Used, and When to Buy New

Buy used when budget and timing matter most. Buy new when you need an exact spec or the system has to last decades.

Used pallet racking is a good fit if you:

  • Need racking up fast for a new lease, a busy season or a growing order book
  • Use standard pallet sizes and a common upright height
  • Want to stretch the budget to cover more pallet positions
  • Are adding to an existing system and can match the brand and style

New pallet racking is the better choice if you:

  • Need a custom height, depth or capacity that isn’t in stock
  • Store very heavy loads and want factory-rated components
  • Need a specialty system like pushback, drive-in or pallet flow
  • Want a full manufacturer warranty for an insurer or corporate buyer

Many buyers mix both: used uprights and beams for standard bays, plus new pieces where the layout needs something specific. Either way, professional rack installation keeps the system level, anchored and to spec.

Moving or closing a building? We also buy used racking through our warehouse relocation and liquidation service, which can offset the cost of your new system.

Cheap Warehouse Racking: What to Check Before You Buy

The cheapest racking online can cost you more if it’s damaged, mismatched or under-rated. Before you buy used racking from anyone, check these five things:

  1. Bent or dented uprights. Any visible bend in a column reduces its capacity. Damaged frames should be repaired or replaced, not reused.
  2. Beam connectors and safety locks. Cracked welds, bent tabs or missing locks mean the beam can lift out under impact.
  3. Matching brands. Different manufacturers’ beams and uprights often don’t fit together safely, even when they look alike.
  4. Capacity ratings. Ask for the beam and frame capacities, and make sure they cover your heaviest pallet.
  5. Rust and base plates. Surface rust is usually cosmetic. Rusted-through base plates or anchors are not.

Buying from a dealer that inspects and sorts its inventory takes most of this risk off your plate. If racking you already own is damaged, our pallet rack repair and maintenance team can inspect and fix it, often for less than replacing it.
